Broken dish Tea Cart

What do broken thrift store plates, an old tea cart, mastic, grout and patience make? A lovely garden cart! I broke plates purchased at a thrift store for a few dollars and laid them out on an old tea cart I found at a local antique dealer. My handy husband laid out the tile "glue" on a piece of wood he cut out to fit the top of the tea cart (in case I ever want to change it out it simply lifts out) We then placed the broken nieces here and there, no rhyme or reason at this point. Once it was set he filled in with an amazing looking sandy colored sealer/grout. I love the "washed up from the ocean broken glass" look I wasn't expecting. What do you think?

Ladle bird feeder

An old metal ladle with a straight handle was changed into a bird feeder. My husband took a torch, heated the end and with a mallet bent the end of the ladle, curving the handle, to hang on our fence. Add a little seed and we have happy birds!

How simple and marvelous! I love being able to look at my husband and say, "can you make this?" He almost always says yes! This was a simple yet brilliant idea. He took a mason jar, painted the lid black. He bought a solar light from Walmart (.99) and took it apart. He drilled a hole in the top of the mason jar and using just the top black portion of the solar light with bulb he placed it in the lid. He then painted the inside of the mason jar with mod podge then sprinkled glitter inside. Let it dry, place in the sun and at night you have this! Add wire for a hanger if you want.

fence post

Something as simple as a fence post and it will hold seasons and holiday signs all year long!
We bought a staircase railing, painted it white. Then we used a sander to "distress" the paint. We then stained it and added a hook. A long metal rod inserted into the bottom of the "fencepost" and into the ground and it's ready to welcome people to our home.

Bringing Pinterest to life

I enjoy Pinterest, it's true. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it when I first joined but now find myself searching it for recipes, crafts, etc. on a regular basis. However, I find myself needing more. So my husband and I went on a hunt to try some of the things we only dream about on Pinterest. We decided to start outside.
He took some old fencing, cut it into planks and made a walkway. We laid everything out first, deciding where the path should be. Pulled up the planks and dug out the rocks. Laid the planks back in and sprayed them with a sealer. After drying we swept the rocks back over it to fill in the spaces. Added some solar lights to it for a nice glow at night.  I love it!
Total time : 3-4 hours with drying Total cost : $11 (we had the fencing, 8 solar lights at $1 each from Walmart, $3 for sealer)

laid all the pieces out to create a path
